Towards integrated water resources management

The National Water Resources Management (NWRM) project assists the stakeholders in set up and implementation of the basin and integrated water resources management in Tajik part of the Syr Darya Basin.

The project is implemented in the pilot main irrigation scheme of Aksu, Isfana, Tomchasay, Khojabakirgan and Arkasay watersheds by the consortium of Helvetas, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH - International Services (GIZ-INS), and ACTED.

Water Sector Reform

Helvetas supports the Water Sector Reform implementation through engagement in systematic policy dialogue at all levels, and the appropriate legal framework for decentralized water governance.

The NWRM project supports the establishment of new basin organizations and strengthens their institutional and technical capacities, rehabilitation of infrastructure, introduction of water saving technologies, watershed management and reduction of water related risks, as well as canal automation in the selected sub-basins.

«I used to pay for irrigation water delivery without measuring its volume. After participation in the training, I decided to install a water measuring device. Now other water users downstream have more water available.»

Voice, Inclusion & Cohesion

In many countries where we work, men and women are unable to claim their rights and participate actively in decision-making processes.

Rural Access

Lack of transport infrastructure makes it impossible for the poor to escape the poverty trap. We help people get better access to markets, schools, and hospitals.
